The DIRECTORY

...is a simple but effective system for providing an on-line internal contacts directory in a small to medium-sized organisation. The project's design philosophy is as follows:

• Readability and ease of use are more important to us than elegant graphical design.

• The system should run itself as far as possible, since everyone's too busy to be the central administrator.

• Er, that's about it.

The DIRECTORY provides a range of features:

• Searching by name or part of name

• Searching by job function

• Fields for a wide range of different contact information

• On-line data editing by the users themselves

• Minimal administrator functions

• Optional display of passcard photos

• Facility to display day-to-day whereabouts

• Links on each page to line manager and to direct reports

All that's needed to implement it is a web server that supports Active Server Pages. The downloadable zip file contains all the necessary ASP code files, an initial file from which your database can grow, and a small readme file to tell you what to do.
